Fascinating Concept Design Study from BMW

OK I don’t usually go into cars but GINA is adorable isn’t she?

“GINA, an acronym for “Geometry and Functions in N Adaptations,” obviously. When motorized metal framing moves, changing the car’s shape and function, its flexible fabric skin moves with it. (Quick: Someone tell Michael Bay.) And though it’s fully functional, at the moment there are no plans for a production run-GINA’s only on view at BMW’s Munich museum.”

For the Love of Pucci

Get this straight, nothing screams I-only-read-Elle-Girl nouveau riche as much as mistaking Emilio Pucci for Gucci. So yeah, I’m not talking about Gucci here. Take note, Marilyn Monroe was buried in Pucci.

Not surprisingly, you would still find this year’s collection of the forever prince of geometric prints is synonymous with geometric prints in a kaleidoscope of colours. Pucci is still selling the boho look with starbursts of colours. The prints this season are a little more linear and clean compared to previous seasons where crazy colours were thrown on the clothes. It sure makes this season a little bit more fresh.

My complain? It is all very eighties and if boho-chic is not your thing, don’t go for it. Otherwise you would only spending huge bucks on something that you hate. There are many other fashionable brands to choose from.

Marc Jacobs: Illustration to Photograph

marc jacobs andy warhol marc jacobs andy warhol interview

Designer Marc Jacobs covers the June/July 08 issue of Interview magazine (celebrating what would have been Andy Warhol‘s 80th birthday on August 6), donning false eyelashes and a classic white Warhol wig for a series of portraits that seem to shift from illustration to photograph. A very Andy Warhol drag homage.

In the interview, Marc Jacobs says; “Warhol is Warhol. He’s practically a god. I thought, ‘I’m going to get a lot of hell for this.”

Metamorphoses of an American

brad kroenig

Grant Theft Auto star and fashion designer/photographer Karl Lagerfeld is launching his new book Metamorphoses of an American at a New York gallery opening tonight. It features five years worth of photos of model. Lagerfeld’s attachment to Brad Kroenig is apparently as strong as his attachment to Diet Coke— he’s always on hand.

Maureen Orth yesterday posted a piece on the Lagerfeld/Kroenig relationship for Vanity Fair:

“‘Have you met Brad?’ Lagerfeld asked. Brad Kroenig, a top male mode who, at 6 foot 1, looks vaguely like Matthew McConaughey, was sparkling in the same silver sequined jacket he’d worn to the Met Costume gala the night before. He and Lagerfeld attended New York’s ‘party of the year’ together, and they had just arrived in Paris the afternoon I saw them, none the worse for wear. Kroenig, an easy-going 29-year-old with the uncanny ability to transform himself to look like everyone from James Dean to Errol Flynn, is the American whose ‘metamorphoses’ Lagerfeld has been documenting for the past five years. ‘I thought it would be interesting to follow the physical evolution of someone,’ the designer told me in his rapid-fire German accent. ‘Without him knowing it, he has an unbelievable range. It’s a kind of gift. He knows nothing about these things. It’s fun for somebody to skate on these images and interpretations without being an actor—the characters, the situations, the attitudes, while at the same time to stay a completely modern all-American.'”

Touch Diamond

Mobile phone manufacturer HTC this week launched the Touch Diamond, an iPhone like Windows Mobile device that has been lauded for its looks.

“All the most important functions are accessible from the home screen using a simple gesture based touch interface; the graphics and animation are gorgeous. While the faceted physical design is innovative, its little nuances, like turning the phone over to silence an incoming call, that make this a device worth noting.”

Looking Back:Marc Jacobs Spring Summer 2008

Let’s look back at Marc Jacobs’s New York Fashion Week Spring Summer 2008. show in New York had a twist. After the designer took his bows, the show ran backward, beginning with evening dress and then daytime wear. The theme of the night for his clothes was shattered glass perspective. I know Marc Jacobs like having fun and being a “bad boy” in the fashion industry, (being the complete opposite to his partner at Hermès), but unfinished skirts and dresses missing sleeves? Come on!
