Gucci: Running with James Franco

Yes, Gucci has announced James Franco as its new face months ago, but the actual ad is finally here. Sean Penn-kisser James Franco is running with you in his new campaign for the fragrance, presenting Gucci by Gucci Pour Homme.

Music: Róisín Murphy – Slave To Love (Bryan Ferry Cover). Director: Jan Wentz. Director of photography: Chris Doyle.

For the Love of Pucci

Get this straight, nothing screams I-only-read-Elle-Girl nouveau riche as much as mistaking Emilio Pucci for Gucci. So yeah, I’m not talking about Gucci here. Take note, Marilyn Monroe was buried in Pucci.

Not surprisingly, you would still find this year’s collection of the forever prince of geometric prints is synonymous with geometric prints in a kaleidoscope of colours. Pucci is still selling the boho look with starbursts of colours. The prints this season are a little more linear and clean compared to previous seasons where crazy colours were thrown on the clothes. It sure makes this season a little bit more fresh.

My complain? It is all very eighties and if boho-chic is not your thing, don’t go for it. Otherwise you would only spending huge bucks on something that you hate. There are many other fashionable brands to choose from.

Christian Dior Cell Phones

christian dior phone

It’s official, these $5000 phones manufactured in partnership with ModeLabs feature a touchscreen display, camera and mini-phone extender called My Dior. About the size of a USB key, My Dior is linked to the main one by Bluetooth technology and allows you to take/make calls. It is meant to clip onto the outside of your handbag (tsk tsk to those women who put their cell phones into their Gucci bags full of make-up).

Remember how the Japanese and Korean make crystals on phones popular? The Dior phone also embeds Swarovski crystals, so it says something to the Swarovski lovers out there too.

Metamorphoses of an American

brad kroenig

Grant Theft Auto star and fashion designer/photographer Karl Lagerfeld is launching his new book Metamorphoses of an American at a New York gallery opening tonight. It features five years worth of photos of model. Lagerfeld’s attachment to Brad Kroenig is apparently as strong as his attachment to Diet Coke— he’s always on hand.

Maureen Orth yesterday posted a piece on the Lagerfeld/Kroenig relationship for Vanity Fair:

“‘Have you met Brad?’ Lagerfeld asked. Brad Kroenig, a top male mode who, at 6 foot 1, looks vaguely like Matthew McConaughey, was sparkling in the same silver sequined jacket he’d worn to the Met Costume gala the night before. He and Lagerfeld attended New York’s ‘party of the year’ together, and they had just arrived in Paris the afternoon I saw them, none the worse for wear. Kroenig, an easy-going 29-year-old with the uncanny ability to transform himself to look like everyone from James Dean to Errol Flynn, is the American whose ‘metamorphoses’ Lagerfeld has been documenting for the past five years. ‘I thought it would be interesting to follow the physical evolution of someone,’ the designer told me in his rapid-fire German accent. ‘Without him knowing it, he has an unbelievable range. It’s a kind of gift. He knows nothing about these things. It’s fun for somebody to skate on these images and interpretations without being an actor—the characters, the situations, the attitudes, while at the same time to stay a completely modern all-American.'”

Head To Toe With Tom Ford: Prestige Hong Kong

He may have walked away from Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent, but he’s back with a series of goodies, including a head to toe menswear collection that’s got everyone talking. Here’s the full article of his interview with Prestige Hong Kong, along with one of the questions regarding his relationship with bath tubs:

I’ve heard that you’re a hygiene fanatic who takes baths three times a day.

I take baths, yes, but it’s really nothing to do with hygiene. Sometimes at my ranch, I won’t bathe for three or four days. I take baths because when I’m in the city and working, I find it relaxing when I get up in the morning and need to wake up slowly. I’m not a great morning person, so I lie in a hot bathtub and just kind of come to life. Then I take a bath before I go out to dinner, as I’m exhausted by the day and I feel like I need to lie in that bathtub, so I can put on a crisp shirt and go out to dinner and then when I come home I want to lie in the bath and wash all the cigarette smoke off myself from wherever I’ve just been . . . and just relax enough so I can go to sleep . . . because I don’t sleep very well. So it isn’t a cleanliness thing. In fact, I think Americans are often too clean. And sometimes I don’t use soap when I take these baths. The goal isn’t to soap myself up and scrub everything off. It’s just to sort of lie in the hot water. It’s relaxation.
