Vibrant Blossoms for Beijing Olympics

This year over a half a million people filled Victoria Park for the Hong Kong Flower Show 2008. The major theme was of course, “Vibrant Blossoms for Beijing Olympics. Participants from around the world created fantastical floral worlds. The spectacular event was accented with drawing, dancing, music and photography competitions. The best part of all is the reward at the end. All of the healthy plants are given to local agencies to keep the beauty alive all year long.

To Dø or not To Dø

Named after the first (and last) note on the music scale, The Dø is the quirky French-Finnish duo of Olivia B.Merilahti (vocals) and Dan Levy (guitar, synths). They explain that they are on a clear mission to crank out a sound that fills the void in popular music in their biography. “[Our music] spans the space between the rock and the roll, with wholesomeness & simplicity that excite like electricity,” the band says.

Dominated by Olivia’s idiosyncratic vocals, their music has an off the wall quality that is very refreshing. Listen to and watch video of the group’s European hit single “On My Shoulder” above.

Sony Ericsson W380i shuts up easily

I think many find it annoying when your phone rings while you’re in class or in a meeting. (Damn it! I forgot to switch my phone to silent mode!) Then you’d need to go through the whole trouble pressing the buttons to turn it off.

Sony Ericsson Walkman phone’s new member, W380i, can help you in this awkward moment. All you need to do is slide your hand over the sensor on its shell, and the phone would immediately shut up and turn itself into silent mode. (Now wouldn’t it be nice if your girlfriend is made this way too)

W380i looks exactly like other clamshell phones. It uses, however, a brand new Walkman On Top design. The shell also includes a hidden OLED monitor on the outside that can show the usual date/time and battery but also songs’ information when it is in the walkman mode. It’s all in the outside so you don’t need to flip the shell all the time like those annoying clamshell phones.
