Scissor Sister Jake Shears will be featured on the cover of the coming issue of BUTT, the quarterly gay journal which is equal parts raunch and literary interviews. This time it’s by the fabulous designer/photographer Hedi Slimane. This fall issue – no. 24 – will be out late August. With loads of contributions by BUTT readers and interviews with Jake Shears from New York, Rosa von Praunheim from Berlin, Will Munro from Toronto and ‘Your Big Dick Host’ from Brooklyn.

Uh…hanging out literally.

Sean Hayes Back in New York

The Will & Grace star opened earlier this month in  Damn Yankees with Cheyenne Jackson and Jane Krakowski, making his New York stage debut in the Encores! Summer Stars series at City Center.

According to The New York Times interview; “To [Hayes] Damn Yankees isn’t about sin and salvation, “it’s about how the grass is always greener on the other side, but in the end knowing who you are, being true to yourself and being happy with that.”

Optical Illusion/Human Mirror on Subway

Improv Everywhere has recently turned a New York City subway car into a “human mirror.” It was done by filling a New York subway car with identical twins dressed alike and facing each other.

“We would get on the 6 train at the start of the line at Brooklyn Bridge and the twins would sit on either side of the car, directly across from their sibling. Once in place, their job would be to mirror each other as closely as possible. If one scratches his head, so should the other. If anyone asked them what was going on, they should claim not to notice anything unusual and not to even be able to see their sibling.”

Sounds Fun eh? Read more and check out their behind the scene photos at their blog.

Marc Jacobs and Ralph Lauren Going Rainbow for Gay Pride

ralph lauren gay

The retail community decided they would participate in the Gay Pride week in New York City this year. The Ralph Lauren boutique down on Bleecker Street in the West Village features mannequins who are wearing Polo shirts in rainbow colour.

Meanwhile, Marc Jacobs is also selling a T-shirt featuring the Confederate Flag in rainbow colors. The store features a giant poster with Jacobs in high heels, a graphic patterned fur coat, an amusing hat and a face full of makeup.

Shophound reports; “Can Marc’s peerless fashion clout make the rainbow flag hip once again by presenting it in a twisted, vaguely paradoxical, potentially controversial way?

Michael Stipe’s Sculptures and Rogan’s Clothes

Michael Stipe Rogan sculpture

Two great events in one post? Fashion designer Rogan is opening a new boutique in New York, and New York magazine reports that R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe will be having an art show there, exhibiting some bronze sculptures he did of cameras and music devices. Said Stipe:

“The radio alarm clock … changed forever the fragile state between sleeping and waking, allowing you to wake to your favorite radio station … The polaroid revolutionized photography by providing instant images available to anyone … Cassettes provided portable, compact music, altering forever the influence of radio as the individual became their own disc jockey.”

The items are not for sale but if you show up on the 27th you can pick up a Rogan Stipe T-shirt.

Cyndi Lauper featuring Gay Porn Star

“Into The Nightlife” is one of the tracks on Cyndi’s new album Bring Ya To The Brink which she flew to Sweden to work on, this one being with the Murlyn production team’s Peer Åström (who also co-wrote and co-produced Brink’s “Echo”). While in Sweden, Lauper also worked with Andreas Kleerup (on “Lay Me Down”), who crafted Robyn’s international hit “With Every Heartbeat,” and Axwell (“Rain On Me”).

The video was shot at New York’s gay bar Splash. In the video, adult film actor-turned-singer Colton Ford also loaned his body out for the shoot. The song I love, but Lauper’s performance in the video is a bit scary to me (she acts more like a witch than a diva to me).
