Ralph Lauren’s Olympics Uniforms

Preppy Olympics uniforms? Yes it’s here and it’s by Ralph Lauren! The velvet leotards, the flips and the landings are all oh so lovable! Standard red, white and navy blue are used (and they compliment each other perfectly). No doubt the American team of this year’s Olympics will look preppier than ever. The opening-ceremony look consists of classy navy blazers with white driving hats and canvas walking shoes; for the closing ceremonies, it’s classic polos and sleeveless sweaters.

Marc Jacobs: Illustration to Photograph

marc jacobs andy warhol marc jacobs andy warhol interview

Designer Marc Jacobs covers the June/July 08 issue of Interview magazine (celebrating what would have been Andy Warhol‘s 80th birthday on August 6), donning false eyelashes and a classic white Warhol wig for a series of portraits that seem to shift from illustration to photograph. A very Andy Warhol drag homage.

In the interview, Marc Jacobs says; “Warhol is Warhol. He’s practically a god. I thought, ‘I’m going to get a lot of hell for this.”

Empire State Building to ‘Glitter’ for Mariah Carey

mariah carey

This weekend the Empire State Building is going to lit in pink, lavender, and white. This is because the largest phallus in New York state is honouring (wait for it…drum rolls)…Mariah Carey for a day.

According to a press release, that’s apparently the color ‘motif’ of the new album E=MC², it’s also the colour of dreams, delicate flowers, and the aura of unicorns — which seem to appear in literally every single one of her music videos.

Mariah herself will be turning the Empire State Building to those three colours, giving it the adorable, soft glow that way-too-modernist skyscraper has needed all along at 1 pm tomorrow.

Something nice and sparkling but not champagne?

Okay, so you want to organize a cocktail party and you need to prepare food and wine. If it’s a celebratory occasion, you would probably want some champagne. The truth is, we want to have a few extra bottles just in case some of your friends decided to bring a date or a plus one. Of course we don’t want to treat our guests with cheap champagne, but we certainly don’t want to cry over our bills when we make our purchase. So what do we do? Here’s a suggestion, sparkling wine- Prosecco

Prosecco is a sparkling wine made of a variety of white grapes grown in the Veneto region of Italy. Traditionally Prosecco was made as a soft, somewhat sweet wine with just a little fizz, but today’s Proseccos are dry and very bubbly. It can replace champagne in some cocktails such as Mimosa if you like. (Which I suggest if you’re making Mimosa, better than using cheap champagne) Like other sparkling wine, it is served chilled.

It generally goes best with seafood, especially calamari and carbmeat. But as most champagne and sparkling wine do, it pairs nicely with everything even the heaviest pastas. If you wish, you may also use it as an ingredient of an Italian mixed drink Sgroppino (with vodka and lemon sorbet).

So next time you want champagne for an occasion but wish for less pricey alternatives, try Prosecco. Note- Italian wines are so chatty!
